چکیده

• Probabilistic model is proposed to predict the elastic modulus of cementitious composites containing CNTs. Optimum ranges experimental variables are found using a reliability analysis. Varied combinations can be used attain similar modulus. Similar trend observed between and predicted moduli. Carbon nanotube (CNT) one most promising nanomaterials increase composites. However, CNT characteristics, dispersion procedure, matrix composition/hydration critical correlated with high degree uncertainty in achieving desirable performance. This paper proposes mechanics-based reinforced materials based on Halpin-Tsai equation. The current study employs probabilistic approach consider influences multiple various sources associated them. To this end, first, Bayesian methodology adopted perform validation, evaluation, selection procedures extensive literature test data. Then, optimum maximize chance certain target (herein, 50% more than control) suggests that highest achieved when aspect ratio from 400 800 concentration 0.08 0.18 c-wt %. Also, experimentally exhibit trend. For example, importance hydration age increases as increases. Finally, reliably modulus, guiding future researchers design efficiently.

Elastic modulus of viral nanotubes.

We report an experimental and theoretical study of the radial elasticity of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) nanotubes. An atomic force microscope tip is used to apply small radial indentations to deform TMV nanotubes. The initial elastic response of TMV nanotubes can be described by finite-element analysis in 5nm indentation depths and Hertz theory in 1.5nm indentation depths. The derived radial You...

calculation of elastic modulus of reinforced nanocomposites by carbon nanotubes using finite element method, averaging approach and micromechanics relations

carbon nanotube (cnt), due to extraordinary mechanical properties, is an effective stiffener as reinforcement in resin for fabricating of nanocomposites. it is demonstrated by adding a small amount of cnt to the matrix, the elastic modulus of matrix increases remarkably. in this paper, the elastic modulus of cnt reinforced nanocomposites is obtained two-dimensionally using a finite element meth...

Direct mechanical measurement of the tensile strength and elastic modulus of multiwalled carbon nanotubes

We have conducted pulling and bending tests on individual carbon nanotubes in-situ in a transition electron microscope. Based on our observation of the force required to break the tube, a tensile strength of 0.15 TPa was computed. From corresponding bending studies on such nanotubes, the Young’s modulus was estimated to be 0.9 TPa (0.8 TPa after ‘sub continuum’ corrections). These results sugge...

Formulation of elastic modulus of concrete using linear genetic programming

This paper proposes a novel approach for the formulation of elastic modulus of both normal-strength concrete (NSC) and high-strength concrete (HSC) using a variant of genetic programming (GP), namely linear genetic programming (LGP). LGP-based models relate the modulus of elasticity of NSC and HSC to the compressive strength, as similarly presented in several codes of practice. The models are d...

Elastic Properties of Carbon Nanotubes and Nanoropes

Elastic properties of carbon nanotubes and nanoropes are investigated using an empirical force-constant model. For single and multi-wall nanotubes the elastic moduli are shown to be insensitive to details of the structure such as the helicity, the tube radius and the number of layers. The tensile Young’s modulus and the torsion shear modulus calculated are comparable to that of the diamond, whi...
